identifying b20e engine 140-160 1971

The B20E designation is for the D-Jetronic engines, regardless of compression ratio. Volvo simply swapped head gaskets to get a ratio that worked for various markets. Sometimes they also left the head a bit thicker when machining it. If the car has an "e" designation, it means injected, but that e is different from the one used on the engine designation. In 74-75 the B20F was introduced, but the car was still a 140E. Thats how it worked in Canada and most of the world. We also had the B20B engine to 1974 in the 140 series, called the 140S for twin carbs. In Europe the 140 had a single carb. There were at least two different thicknesses of E heads, only one for the F.
