swapping OD unit onto a non OD tranny 140-160

If I wanted to take my OD unit of of the tranny I bought because it leaks oil and has bad berrings. What would be involved in putting that OD unit on my old standard 4spd M40 which was working fine when I pulled it out? I have heard something about different output shafts. And also that there are some fundemental differences in the trannies that were designed to become OD trannies. Any ideas or help?
