hall efect dead, or computer dieing? 700

it seems that my computrer is dieing or my hall is dieing, here is the short story, in the morning when every thing is cold, my tach seems allright, after i drive to town (20+ miles) it does ok but when i stop then some time when get back in the car and try to start it the tach doesn't eaven twitch.
if i leave the hood up then it seems to start sooner, and some times it does ok, other times not , i was justwondering if the hall effect sensor eather goes completely out all at once or slowly starts goofing up?, if not then might it my the little grey box on the wheel well under the hood,, maby a soider joint in the computer.? has any one pulled apart there computer and fixed it? it is quickly becomeing a Big problem i'd apriceate any one and every ones thoughts and ideas or storys. thanks in advance!
