FUEL GUAGE INCONSISTENCY 700 1985

Hey all,

I have a 1985 744 with 172K, the fuel gauge likes to waiver back and forth
sporatically but only ocassionally. Because of this i am never 100% sure how much fuel I actually have. Can anyone tell me what is causing this?
I thought it may be the FPR or the in-tank pump/sensor, am I wrong?
