Cold start problem....hair is falling out 700 1986

I have an '86 745ti and I'm having major problems getting it started when it is cold. I have to pump the gas like a billion times and keep turning the starter in short bursts before it will finally turn over. Then, I have to stay on the gas until it will idle on its own. The car starts right up once its warm and runs really well. I've poured over the FAQ, but haven't seen anything quite like this. Any help is greatly appreciated. You guys have helped me get this thing running and on the road from the brink of death.
P.S.- I've already cleaned the throttle body (and replaced gasket) and cleaned idle air control valve.
