Another ? on wheel bearings.... 200 1990

I am planning on replacing my front wheel bearings this coming weekend, and wanted to be prepared for it. A few knowledgeable guys on this board (and including Haynes manual) says to tighten the nut while turning the wheel, until you feel some resistance to turning, which at that point, you back off and finger tighten. My question is, how can you be sure that the inner bearings are going in straight and not at an angle? What should I look out for?

TIA
