Riddle me this, Mr. Foster 700 1987

I would do the following: take the solenoid off and make sure it is clean and functioning at the valve. Remove the pan (leave the fill tube on if it is stuck and pull the whole assembly) and clean the innards, which will give you some indication of the cleanliness of the tranny. If these don't solve the problem, then I suspect you've got pressure problems inside. You can buy the Volvo OEM A/T book (TP 31642/1) for about $30 to give you a direction for further test and repair.
