speedometer not working 200 1981

Is it the speedometer that isn't working or is the odometer that has quit? Or have they both stopped working?

A non working odometer that still has a working speedometer is usually a cracked gear in the speedometer head. If they both have stopped working I would investigate the speedometer cable running from the transmission or the drive on the transmission.

My experience is that the most common failure in this era car is a working speedometer with a non working odometer due to the cracked gear.
