You need a spark signal (from the primary side) to trigger the fuel pump relay. No spark means no gas. It's a safety feature.

A dumb question -- is the cam turning? That is, did your timing belt break? If the belt's broken, the distributor won't turn, which means no spark.

As I recall, you can replace the sensor with the distributor in the car.

Those ignition modules are very robust. They hardly ever give trouble. It's much more likely that your engine wiring harness is crumbling, and the ignition wires are shorted or grounded, or something similar.
