Transmission service 200 1989

I have a 1989 245DL, and I am going to get a transmission service done today. I called around yesterday and was told that the torque converter will not be drained. So basically, not all the fluids will be drained from the transmission. One shop told me that my model year does not have a transmission filter, only a "screen," so no filter change. Can someone confirm this for me? What is usually done (and changed) during a transmission service? Also, what type of transmission fluid and how much will be added? I do not want to be ripped off or have an "incomplete service." By the way, all three places I called were Volvo independents. Thanks.
