Purpose of vacuum hose on B230FT 700

A vacuum hose runs from the intake manifold to the plastic fitting on the PCV hose, I had removed it thinking it was incorrect and resulting a loss of manifold pressure, the fitting is restricted and apparently is part of the PCV system. I developed a small rear seal leak (one drop every AM) and am wondering if this vacuum line had any effect. I hooked it back and washed down the back of the head and dist. area to see if the leak is actually coming from the rear seal or above. The engine has about 165,000 miles on my rebuild using aftermarket parts.
Thanks
