transmission question 200

I noticed not too long ago that when I shift from 1st to 2nd and keep my hand on the shifter, after acceleration the shifter lurches up, back towrads 1st. It doesn't lurch out of gear, just far enough that it's noticeable in my hand. My question is...is this a bad sign? By the way, it's the 5 speed in an 87 245dl, that may or may not be original to the car. I say this becasue I have seen the hole in the hump has been mangled a bit towards the rear of the hole. any help, as always, is apprecieated.
