Oil blowing out oil filler cap even after replacement 200 1987

Oil started leaking from the oil filler cap on the valve cover so I replaced the cap with a new one. It still leaks and the mating surface on the valve cover seems clean and flat.

I warmed the engine and could see a slow leak from the oil cap. I turned the engine off and unscrewed the cap and there was a considerable pressure release. Is there a probable cause(s) of this problem that will help me get a fix done or should I go ahead and remove the oil pan and service the oil pump?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
