Squeak/chirp from shifter on bumps sometimes 700 1990

I have a strange, short, squeak, like a chirp that seems to be coming from the shifter area when going over bumps sometimes. The car is a 1990 744 turbo intercooler 4-spd manual w/ ovrdr. Wiggling the shifter around doesn't make the squeak, so I'm concerned it's actually coming from somewhere in or around the transmission. Maybe related, I'm not sure if this is normal for this car but the shifter (and tranny I guess) moves depending on how much stress is on the drivetrain...step on it and it leans right, drag the engine and it leans left. Perhaps the transmission mounts are loose, causing both problems? Any insight would be great.

Thanks,
Richard
