740 4th Gear disengaged 700 1991

My car's 4th Gear Disengagement light will goes on sometime when I first start the car. This happened about 6 months ago, but I didn't pay much attention to it.cause when I push the overdrive button twice it will goes off.
but in the past month, the light goes on more frequently and when I push the o/d
button, it does not make the light off! and the car drives like without overdrive.

45mph at 3000rpm!
it is not correct.

I've already read all the messages in the FAQ, but just wonder what I shall do first to fix the problem.
