Electrical problems !!! 1985 Volvo 240 gl wagon: Dash Lights & some gagues + all rear lights and turn signals out???? 200 1985

While parked for two hours at dusk something happended. I started the wagon only to notice that I was at 0 RPM as the lights of the dash flickered. Then I realized I had no turn signal, only a buzzing sound. I later discovered that all rear lights & all turn signals were out. All dash indicators besides odometer and spedometer are out too.

Another odd fact is that when I turn off the overdive, the little orange arrow turns on dimly and the affected gauges start to work at one third strength (my tank is known to be full but shows only 1/3, & the RPM is off by a similar factor).

1. My alternator is fine (checked twice);
2. my battery is new (& charged);
3. not one of my fuses is blown (& yes, I switched them out).

What is going on? how can I fix it?
