Hmmm--what's this thing? Emissions? 200 1992

My 1992 240 wagon w/AW70 has a device I can't identify which may be part of the engine management or emissions control. I'm hoping someone out there in Brick Land will know what it is.

It's a sort-of cylinder, maybe 2" diameter and 3" tall, mounted on the left fender well, to the front of the coil and ABS box. It has two electrical leads and two vacuum lines. The vacuum lines (transparent yellow and white plastic tubes, not rubber hoses--that's strange too) run to the intake manifold and to the idle air control.

The Haynes manual has a schematic of the LH 3.1 system and it doesn't show anything like this. (Not that I have total faith in Haynes, but it's all I have on hand...)

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Doug Harvey
