large 80mm tach installation 200 1990

(F'ing login.)

To remove your instrument cluster:
left
pull the light and dimmer knobs straight off, then pop off the little panel
remove the two screws and ease out the metal plate.

right
pop off the accessory gauge panel and the clock bezel to expose the two screws there.

Once they are out you can start to ease out the cluster unhooking wiring as you go. Then the speedo has an electrical (86-on) or mechanical (85-earlier) harness with a little anti-tamper plate covering it. The plate will snap free with a little to and fro action. Then you can unplug the harness. There will be cruise control wire, and an orange wire in addition to the round and half round plugs to remove at the right side. Now the cluster will come out.

Remove the screws holding the clock and pry it out carefully. To put in the tach, first insert the trim plug for the empty clock set stem. Then ease the tach in and screw it in place. Attach the clock harness to the tach. Attach the red and white dash wire ONLY to the lower terminal (there might be a double terminal, use either) of the tach. Replace the cluster and start to hook up the harnesses as you set it deeper into the dash. String the clock harness over to the small clock and plug. You are now done with the tach and clock.
