Need help deciphering carfax report!!!

It looks to me like a pretty straightforward accident scenario.
I usually recommend against accident vehicles since it's hard to detect hidden problems with rust in hidden areas, or wiring that's been spliced together around a damaged area. However, a title like this doesn't guarantee that the car is not suitable.
As the Carfax statement says in a roundabout way, a salvage title, which is what this car has, gets issued whenever an insurance company totals a car, or more specifically when the next buyer goes to register the car.

A total simply means that the estimate for repair of the vehicle was more than half the value of the vehicle. The insurance companies use this as a rule of thumb. With older cars this is obviously a lower value. So what would be repaired on a 3 year old car is "too much" damage for a 6 yr old or 10 yr old car. If that '90 got in an accident today, and was in *perfect* condition, an estimate of $2000 would certainly total it. it's not hard to do $2000 of damage, especially when you price Volvo repair parts instead of used.

If the car checks out (HAVE A MECHANIC INSPECT IT!!) and seems to have no lasting electrical or alignment problems from whatever accident it was in, I'd buy it.
Good luck!
