reattaching steering rack to steering shaft 200 1987

YO,
1987 240 DL wagon, ZF rack.Got the old one out,installing the new one, a few questions.What's the procedure for reinstallation? I know, installation is the reverse of removal,but should I try to get the shaft on first,or bolt up the rack?.Do I tap the u-joint onto the shaft with a mallet?I knew geting if off would be the easy part.The only part that concerns me is connecting the rack to the steering shaft.
