Mystery driveability problem fixed itself--can anyone explain what happened? 200 1992

Recently I posted a question about my 1992/AW70--it would start and run great except it would bog down whenever I tried to start off from a stop. Between a Volvo shop and me, we checked just about everything. No codes showed on the scope, but everything else checked ok so there wasn't anything left but to swap out the computer. Ugh--big $.

Hmmmm--the shop had put in a test AMM and that didn't help, but they didn't try to drive the car with the AMM disconnected. I tried it--it drove even worse, but the same pattern. So I reconnected it.

When you run the car with the AMM unplugged, the diagnostic unit stores a trouble code and "check engine" lights up. I knew the problem already, so I just unhooked the battery to erase the code.

Here's the mystery part. Once I reconnected the battery, the car was FIXED! It runs OK! All I can figure is that I gave it a cold reboot.

What's with this car--does the computer on a 1992 have active software? What did I reset with the power-off?
