Brake Bleeding & Master Cylinders 200 1982

I just installed new rotors, calipers, pads, ebrakes, on my '82. I had my wife come out and help me bleed the brake lines, but it got too late and we called it a night. I have been reading some archives about people ruining the master cylinder by pushing the brake pedal too far. I hope I didnt do this! Is this a common occourance, should I purchase a brake bleeding aparatus to bleed the brakes?? Are there any special tricks to bleeding te system properly?

Matt
