Switched to high beams, all electical shut down, engine died 200 1984

Wow,this is definately an exciting occurance when you are driving. Car has been parked for about 3 weeks. While driving the family home from a late movie, I pulled back on the turn signal stalk to change beams, when ZIP, off go the lights, radio, and engine. I pulled to the side of the road, opened the hood, wiggled wires, but no change. Then about 2 minutes later, I heard the door chime, and everything was back to normal. I did not mess with the beam selector after that. Got home, tried to duplicate the problem, no luck. Any suggestions besides engine grounds?
Thanks in advance.
