Oil starvation in my (?!?) head! 900 1984

Hi all I'am new to the forum so as it's my first time, so go easy on me (and my 240 Turbo).
Here we go. I've got a problem (what else), I drove my '84 240 with 230,000 Kms on the highway last week. I went about 200k no probs, turned off the highway went about 1km reducing my speed and then the car died. I suspected my timing belt,(from the sound of my starter and the crank rotating)and got towed home. Well took the cover off and sure enough it was my belt! But the belt wasn't broken,as I suspected, it just didn't rotate. I found that the teeth on the belt had simply sheared off around the crankshaft. Well what the #$""+^ was this? My starter rotated the crank; I could hand turn my intermediate shaft (so my distributor rotated and I suspect my pump worked fine). BUT my cam had seized solid! I took the cam cover off and things looked "dry", I loosened one of the cam bearing caps and it was scored abit, I loosened them all put some oil all over the cam and ta da! I turned it and got good rotation.
I run synthetic oil; always make sure my fluids are up to the marks;(I loose a 1/2 L through my turbo, gums up my catalytic c.---so it has for years).

The BIG question is why the top-end oil starvation? Is this common to other Volvo's. Anyone have this problem?
Is it the pump? (not likely say most people, usually it's a gradual drop in pressure and no red light or pressure drop was noted???); Is it an oil gallery clog? if so can I clean the galleries without taking the head off? Finally is there a messy, oil squirting way I can visually see oil is getting to the cam. I am at your mercy!!!
Yours MIGMATIC
