Replacing Struts 200 1983

Hi all!
OK fellas, I replaced both tie rods and ends, removed both balljoints (to be replaced with new ones), removed both wheel bearings (to be repacked). All that with no problem. However, I'm at a loss when I got to removing the strut assembly so I can replace the cartridge, mount/bearings and spacers. Haynes manual calls for removing the brake line bracket. It didn't seem to make any sense since the bracket is welded to the tube. The other bracket mounted on the wheel well looks like it could be removed, but I will have to break loose the fittings for the brake line. I tried just that and the fittings won't budge. I had to stop before I totally round off the hex on the brass fittings. My question is: Is there a way I can replace strut parts without actually removing the brake lines. Any info will be sincerely appraciated.
Denny
