fitting post 80 244 doors to 74 144 140-160

Hi all
I have started to restore and modify my personal import 74 144gl and i want to fit post 80 doors so i can fit power windows and mirors and central locking plus interior door trims and door handles from a 240GLE and to get rust free doors. Today I started to fit the left hand door and found the lock and striker plate are different I looked at the work shop manual and it said that pre 77 car had different lock and striker plate to post 77 cars. And it said that the later door has to be modifed to the early lock. Has any body done this and does anyboby have any information on this modification
