Well, it's not a new pan, but it's from my 83 245 and in very good condition. The belly pan on my 89 245 is cracked and barely hanging. I doubt it would fall of completely, but if I hit something on the road I'm sure part of it would break off. I had taken off the belly pan from the 83 last week and cleaned it. Yesterday I took the 89's pan off and applied Gunk degreaser on the lower engine parts. Wow, a lot of gunk down there. I then hosed it off and drove it around the block to air and dry it out a bit. Taking off the pan was easy, but putting it on was a bitch! If you ever do this job, screw the back part first. But make sure you have the front part slotted into the two clips first! After securing the back part of the pan with the three screws, do the front and sides. Much easier than screwing the front part and then the back! I can't believe this Volvo shop was going to charge me $75 for a new pan, and IPD has them for about $45.
On another note, could someone tell me if it's perfectly okay to apply WD40 on rubber components, like on the belts and pulleys. I'm not sure if WD40 is bad for rubber, if it will make rubber brittle. After I had sprayed Gunk degreaser on the undercarriage and hosing it off after 10-15 minutes, I sprayed some WD40 in certain areas to lubricate and to ward off water. Can I spray it on the rubber belts and pulleys to lubricate them? Or I don't even have to spray there because they don't require lubrication.
