Can someone tell me how to align the crank, inlet and exhaust camshafts to install a new timing belt?
I busted my car since some mechanical engineers decided to place the engine susceptible to if a damn rubber band breaks it bursts the engine's valves and pistons in pieces. Not very smart! I have red stories of the timing belt breaking and busting the whole engine at 23K. If you have a 960 or a car with a timing belt with no piston/valve clearance, CHANGE THE TIMING BELT AT HALF OF THE RECOMENDED MILEAGE!!! Believe me you will regret it if you do not. I leaned the very hard way.
I have replaced a piston and the head, but I do not know how to put the timing right. And I'd better do it right or the engine will burst all over again.
The crank seems to have a notch on the front of the gear that aligns in the middle of two teeth and a notch on the engine aluminum panel. I guess you need to put the crank with the gear and the plate notches aligned. However, the inlet and exhaust camshafts have an M in the middle of two teeth, ARE THESE THE TIMING MARKS? If so, HOW DO YOU ALIGN THEM WITH THE CRANK, if these are not the timing marks where the heck are they. Changing the timing belt on a car should not be this hard.
How do you place the M marks and/or what tools do you recomend to use to put the timing right.
Also, is there any kit to replace the blet by a chain?
