I need tach installation advice. 200 1989

I am replacing my clock with a large tachometer, and I see the white/red striped wire that is supposed to attach to the back of the tachometer, but where do the black, green, & red wires that are currently coming off the back of the tach connect? I'm assuming these are necessary for the tach to function since it didn't function with only the white/red wire connected. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom
