Greetings from the frozen north...
I'm in a bit of a jam here. My mom is a week away from selling her old subaru sedan, and having fallen in love with my 245, wants a volvo of her very own. She needs something to use as a daily in the city, and for occasional road trips to see her son (me) at college. She's looked at a '92 244 and a '93 944, and would probably be happy with either car. Both are in pristine condition. My concern stems from the reason that we're selling the subaru. To put it gently...
She won't fix anything on a car until it prevents her from driving it, regardless of noise, smell, etc. I might exagerrate a bit, but I want to be clear. She's rough on cars. Small problems will most likely go unchecked. When I'm home in the summer, I keep an eye on the car, but when I'm away, bad things can happen. In this case, a simple power steering leak cost her the pump and did some other damage which resulted in a $1000 repair bill. Not worth it with a Subaru. And so I ask...
240 or 940? I know that the 240 is -ahem- a bit more "forgiving" to poor maintenance, my mechanic tells me of several cars that kept chugging along despite problems that would've stopped a lesser car. I don't have much experience with the 940 series, and just need to know which will stand up to a slight beating better. I'm also comfortable enough with my 245 to troubleshoot and in most cases do small repairs.. is the 940 more "complicated" under the hood?
Thanks for your time..
