Fuel Gauge Malfunction 900 1995

Recently the fuel gauge has stayed frozen in one position for a few days at a time. Numerous starts and numerous bangs on the dash, rough roads have not had an effect on it. Occassionally when I start the car, it will be in a new position, but stay frozen that way for a few days again. It's hard to believe the gauge is sticking or for that matter the float. I just drove it 390 miles yesterday and the gauge never moved.

Any thought as to where I should start debugging this. Thanks <_<
