water pump leak (w/ history) 200 1984

hi all,

about 30K miles ago, i had a friend/mechanic replace the timing belt on my 84 240 Turbo and figured water pump should be replaced, too, since i didn't know its history. he installed it and not too long after had the car in for something else and noticed a leak. he replaced it w/ a new pump free of charge. neither of these pumps was Volvo. it started leaking again about a weak ago and my friend reinstalled the pump w/ new seals (again free of charge) and said the pump was fine but that there was corrosion where the o-ring seats. it is now leaking again, but only a very little and seemingly only at startup now. after driving for a while, if i look where the leak is, there is no coolant there. i'm wondering if maybe there is a typical failure of the pump that he is missing or if there really is something to his corrsion theory. can anyone offer any help?

thanks,
jake
