weird clunk/tick coming from right rear 200 1985

Greetings all-

Looking at my friends AT brick with 165k on the clock. He has the wierdest sound coming from the right rear of the car, in the tire area, at low speeds. The longer the car is driven, it becomes more consistent and louder. At first I thought it was maybe the exhaust, but the sound is related to the speed of his tires/drivetrain; it has a consistent tick/clunk as it drives. It goes away when he speeds up, but it is strongest between 15-25 mph. One has to drive the car about 15 minutes before it starts to happens. When it does get going, it is pretty loud from in the car. Any thoughts?

Thanks-

Joe HC
