driveshaft alignment 200

Took the rear u-joint off the pinion flange on an 87 245 the other day after marking the position with a "magic" marker....only to find that when it was time to reconnect it, the magic marker had rubbed off. In reading the board, I find two schools of thought on alignment..one guy says if the front ujoint is vertical, then the last ujoint should be horizontal on the pinion flange. Another says they should be in the same attitude? Who is right? And does the last ujoint only go on the flange in two positions (180 degrees from each other) since the holes don't line up otherwise? I did not pull the slip yoke out of the center bearing. Please help..thanks. lanky
