How do you get the OD off an M46 200

I have not had one of these in a while so here goes. Two people since you will need four hands.

Since the OD has moved the 1.5 inches, the pump cam is most likely free from the follower. This is the most common sticking point which only allows about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of movement then stops. Your binding lies at the rear within the Sprague clutch and planetary drive gear to trans ouput shaft area.

First, remove the solenoid and/or remove the guage plug on the bottom of the OD. This to releave any pressure that might still be in the system.

Take a hammer, and while turning the drive shaft coupling flange clockwise (I think reverse turns the driveshaft clockwise but it is early and I'm still not fully awake) as you look at it from the rear, rap the flange with the hammer a couple of times. Metal to metal! No cushioning material between. This is to shock the Sprague clutch rollers to release their grip on the cam and drive race as well as shock the spline contact area of the sun gear. You may have to do this while applying pressure to the rear on the OD. Be ready for a sudden release of the OD.

If this does not work, place some padding material (1/4 ply or similar)between the OD case and the adapter and pry on both sides at once while again rapping the drive flange.

Final release method is to remove the eight nuts that hold the two OD cases together, top two all the way off first, then the others in a gradual release as there is spring pressure attempting to push the two cases apart, rocking the rear case as you pull backwards
