post wiring harness trauma 200

I replaced the wiring harnes in my 87 240dl wagon yesterday and I'm working on problem number 2. At the moment, the car cranks but won't catch. I have admitadly been lazy and I haven't checked for spark yet. I suspect that's the issue with all the electrical stuff just done. My concern is that I removed the distributer cap (I did no remove the wires so the firing order is still correct) and likely got grease on the rotor, would this cause a lack of spark? My other guess is, I bumped the plastic plug on the distributer where the wiring harness attaches. Will having this thing loose cause a no spark condition? Is there anything else I could have hooked up wrong that would cause the car to not start?

For those that gave advice on my tach never working...it seems to work now so there is some good that has come from this project. Thanks.

Ken
