Seat cover replacement 700 1986

Last week I visited a local auto upholstery shop and was given an estimate of $600 to replace the front seat-bottom covers with leather (like the original). He offered to do the same with naugahide for $300. I am not going to bother with the naugahide, but wondered if the leather replacement seems like a fair price. I guess you just have to get over the fact that restoring these things and keeping them up to speed costs many times what the car would sell for. Thanks.
