Oil consumption 700 1987

Has anyone out there seen this?

I have a 1987 740 Turbo wagon with 242K miles. It seems my oil consumption has dramatically increased recently. I found this out last night at the gas station when I checked my oil and found the dip stick dry! I had to put 2 quarts in to bring the oil level to the top of the flat part of the dip stick..., The oil light had never as much as flikered! I sure hope I did not cause any damage to the engine...

I do not have any oil leaking onto the driveway (not even a drop!) and there is no smoke whatsoever coming out of the tail pipe (my buddy drove behind me this morning... I think I last checked my oil and topped it off about 2K miles back... So, in the last 2K miles the engine somehow consumed 2 quarts! Where is it going? What would be considered normal oil consumption on a 740 with 200K+ mileage?

Thanks,
JJ
