Well...rats. I'm glad you mentioned that. I have this M40 gearbox case with nothing but the reverse gear which was to be my donor. But in looking, the tooth edges on that one are straight up/down, whereas on the M41, the rearmost edge of the teeth are slanted. Perhaps to accomodate a wider gear somewhere else? I assume that is the difference you are referring to? And...is the later design stonger? I sorta want the strongest transmission I can get behind this engine...
So now the problem is finding another donor tranny. And I did find one, but the stinkin' reverse gear has biggie chunks missing in about half the teeth... So..back to the drawing board on teh tranny. I'm soon to be over my head again just lining up tranny bits. I'll start a new thread about it when I get into more trouble.
What about removing the OD? Can I just take out the four big bolts at the transmission case and pull it out? And then.... whats involved in swapping just the tail shaft assuming I find a decent M40 around? Is that something a fella can do with limited tools? Or...would that too be best left to a pro?
