cold start then stall, then no start! 200 1984

This is the world's greatest website! I had a modified 740ti then upgraded to 850R. Now, I am in a '84 240 to pay for school instead of car payments.

My problem seems to be pretty common but I couldn't find anything conclusive in the archives. The 240 cold starts just fine, then after I put it into reverse and back out of a space, it stalls. When I try to restart it, it idles at about 300 rpm for a few seconds then dies. Sometimes it starts and runs completely normal, but it is giving me the stall/no start routine with increasing frequency. When it first started, I suspected the FPR and replaced it but now the problem's back. Any ideas on the likely culprit? I desperately need this car to run!!
