Banjo fitting washers??? 700

I have new washers but does it matter which side of the washer goes where????? One side is flat and the other is rounded, do the flat sides go up against the banjo or do the face away from the banjo. I used new ones to start with but the fitting still leaked and I had to tear the whole thing apart again. (I have the latter oil filter housing, and it has to come off to get to the oil feed line on the block.) I just want toget it right this time. Also I think I over tightened the first time.
