Tranny Question 200

I have a 1986 240DL w/ automatic tranny, and awhile back, the tranny started to randomly downshift prior to shifting into 4th gear. What I mean is it would shift down from 3rd into 2nd, then shift up to 3rd and then to 4th when I was accelerating to highway speeds. I took it to my mechanic (who doesn't specialize in foreign, but is a friend of mine) and he said that it was the pressure switch on the transmission that was shot. He said a new one would only cost about $85. What I want to know is is this a possibility? Or could it be something else?
