I got a 1988 DL240, I'm in Calif. and my Nitrus Oxide is a gross polluter. Two
years ago I bought it, failed smog (nit-oxide), put on a cat-convert and it passed very well. This year I failed smog (nit-oxide), put a new cat-convert and also did a Fuel Injection System Flush (it does run better now), went back to same tester and failed as bad if not worse. What can I do.
My plan: get an two-month extension on my registration (which would give me till the end of good till end of January), find out about this "by" I understand is available which gives me two year extended time to fix the problem or junk the car. Then I would go about trying to fix the darn thing. I bought it for $650 and it has been great. I went in myself and fixed the blower moter myself with the help of the Brickboard Forum, and it has been great. Now I'm back to the Forum with this new "Smog Inspection" problem.
Can anyone be of assistance here? Do I have hope of passing without paying out the nose? I understand the ERG or whatever unit that controls Nitrus Oxide emissions was not put on my model-year of volvo and I cannot add it after the fact.
