Help! Warning lights and AC indicator light flashing. 700

I have a 1988 760 GLE and today the light around the AC button started flashing and the warning lights in the dash (battery, anti-lock, etc.) started fading in and out. The warning lights stopped fading after a while, though sometimes coming on when braking, but the AC light kept flashing until I cut the car off for a while then started it back up. I need your opinions. I'm thinking it is either the battery or the altenator. Thanks for your responses.
