Manual Transmission Question 700 1987

I have an 87 740 GLE (234,000 miles)which has a manual transmission with O/D. In the past couple of months, it seems that after driving at highway speeds (100 to 110 kilometers an hour), when I downshift (clutch depressed) from O/D to fourth gear, I've noticed that there is a bit of hesitation going into fourth. I thought that I may have a problem with the O/D solenoid but this problem also has reared it's ugly head when downshifting from fourth to third. Two weeks ago I replaced the transmission fluid (Type F) thinking that this would rectify the problem. Last night, I was on the highway for the first time since replacing the transmission fluid and when I downshifted from fourth to third, you could feel that the car was not fully engaged in third gear and the RPM increased momentarily and then it went into third gear. I had the clutch replaced about 25,000 miles ago.

It seems that this problem only surfaces after I've been highway driving with O/D engaged. No problem what so ever with city driving.

Is it possible that the O/D solenoid is causing me this grief or should I be looking at the transmission? Any comments would be greatly appreciated!
