many thanks to Matt and Bremski for the suggestions! I will check the
in tank fuel system out and the numerous other items pointed out by
you.
--I am a looong time air cooled VW wrencher (bus) so some of this stuff is new to me but I am suprised by the similarities of the older Volvos to the older VeeDubs.
Last night, after fixing my furnace,(sigh) I routed a hose to bypass the
air solinoid which allows/controls air flow at idle. In the middle of the length
of hose I had a C clamp which I tightend to restrict the bypass flow and when
das Volvo warmed up and started to do the search thing I would tighten or loosen
the C clamp to vary the air flow and was able to somewhat control the idle.. of
course I couldn't react quickly enough to keep it nice and smooth but I could tell
that it had a significant effect.
From this I have to conclude that the solinoid (or God forbid the ECU) isn't
functioning. Not having the pin out for the connector on the solinoid I am reluctant to "bench test" it.
Sooooo.
Anyone know the pinout for this device? I am assuming it is a 12 VDC input and
not a stepped down voltage... also this part is original so the part number is not
legible any more. Anyone have the part number? Cant find it in the manual. Also
is Bently the manual of choice?
TIA!
