Broken connector on distributor 700 1986

When reinstalling the distributor after doing a head gasket job I broke the connector of the distributor to which the primary lead attaches. I managed to secure it (the connector) to the distributor with electrical tape but am wondering whether I should replace it or at least find one at a local junk yard. The car seemed to have a little less oomph at acceleration than it did before the head gasket job (which wasn't much to began with).

Incidentally, what genius saw fit to design the distributor with that connector so poorly placed as it is??

Confused! Thanks in advance
