A/C relay acting up 700 1990

When the A/C was on, a relay clicked every few seconds, and the drain on the engine changed accordingly, it was the compressor switching on and off. I reseated the A/C relay and cleaned its contacts, and the problem seems to have gone away. Is it strange that I had to do this (the relay was firmly seated to begin with), maybe the contacts weren't the problem and I just jostled something? Also is it normal for it to be warm? (After running A/C for 10-15 mins)

Thanks,
Richard
