Is the 960 a good car to buy?

I own two of them; one is a recently purchased 97 V90. I like both of them very much and have not had lots of issues with them. The 92 has had a new AC compressor put in, the most expensive and only major problem. It's too early to tell with my '97.

The PNP switch is an achillies heel; otherwise, as others have stated, it depends a lot on the owner before you. The '95 model year was a huge change-over for a car that lasted only 7 years. Lots of refinements and engineering improvments, including a longer timing belt interval. Make absolutely sure that this has been changed at interval, and that the tensioner is good. Use synthetic oil and synthetic ATF.

I think cdu said it very well, and something I have said many times. Volvos will last a long time, but they are not cost-free to maintain. As for the 960 series, Bricksters appear to fall in two distinct groups; those that love them and those that run from them. The first group include only owners, the second includes a mix.
