84.5 turbo won't idle 200

Hey all,
I've got a 84 factory intercooled turbo 240 sedan. Drove to the store, went in, came out, started up the car, it fired up and immediately died. After a few tries figured out if I kept giving it gas it wouldn't stall, and got it home. However, it still won't run unless I depress accelerator. I can start it and keep it running by stepping on the gas, but the minute I let up it dies. I'm hearing a low pitch whining hum from what sounds like the location of the fuel filter that continues a few seconds after a failed attempt to start it without giving it gas.

The problem came on very fast, car was running well up until then...I'm not sure where to start. Been looking around for any vacuum leaks, so far haven't found anything. Any ideas? Mechanic is booked thru next week, said it sounded like a vacuum leak, but hasn't looked at it. I'd like to try a few things myself while I wait, hoping I can fix it myself. Any ideas?

I've done a few simple steps, cleaned the contacts and replaced all fuses in fusebox. Car has about 1/4 tank of gas, could low amt of fuel be part of the problem?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
